Grew up in rural Oklahoma. Music and writing was a mainstay in her life. She married at the age of 18, had two daughters, then married a Kurdish/Syrian man, to whom she was married for 11 years. She traveled to Europe and the Middle East. Converted to Islam in 1985. After the birth or her son, she began teaching other American women Islamic studies.
In 2013, Rene graduated, with honors with a degree in Psychology. She uses this degree as a conduit for characters in her work.
Rene has written several plays and is actively working on a musical about the Irish Legend Deirdre of the Sorrows. Rene is also the former lead singer and songwriter for the Celtic band Rhianon.
